The Bloods claimed only their second win of the season and in the process knocked the holders Atherton Colleries out of the Integro League Cup in a battling performance after falling behind after just one minute.
Goals from Luke Daly and Lewis Doyle against his former club cancelled out Jordan Cover’s early strike after Droylsden had lost the ball in midfield, James Sigsworth’s attempt to find the back of the net ending up being dragged across the area to fall at the feet of Cover whose shot gave Livesey, making his Bloods debut no chance.
Dave Pace’s team though should have levelled minutes later,a mix up at the back leaving Olly Ford with only the keeper to beat dragging his shot wide.
Atherton looked the stronger team, the dangerous Cover forcing Livesey into another save on the half hour mark while the home team thought that they had a penalty soon after when Livesey brought down Hardcastle only for the linesman to be flagging for offside.
With four minutes of the half remaining Droylsden were level,Sefton Gonzales picking up the ball on the half way line and playing it through to Luke Daly.
The midfielder still had plenty to do but calmly slotted the ball past Latham.
Hardcastle had a great chance to restore the home team’s lead just after the resumption,a Dylan Smith mistake letting him in but he sliced his attempt horribly wide of the far post.
Atherton kept pressing, Sigsworth forcing another save from Livesey as he got to the byline and the keeper was called in again pushing a scorching shot from Hardcastle behind for a corner with half an hour to play.
With ten minutes left,Droylsden struck,Luke Daly playing the ball through on the right to find substitute Lewis Doyle who calmly struck the ball into the far corner and claim a place in the next round.
