Droylsden 2-1 Widnes

Droylsden claimed a place in the Preliminary Round of the FA Trophy winning a tight extra preliminary game against fellow Evo Stik West League side Widnes.

The Bloods three new signings Sam Baird,Andy Hollins and Sean Miller all started,Phil Marsh also making his first start in midfield.

The visitors had an early chance,Rob Doran forcing Chris Thompson into an early save while at the other end Clive Smith blazed a shot over the bar from inside the penalty area.

Shaun Holden pulled up injured shortly after, Liam Caddick replacing him at full back before the visitors took the lead after 23 minutes,George Lomax converting from short range after being set up by Chris Lomax.

Droylsden were level five minutes later,Brandy shoved in the box by Akrigg and captain Michael Brewster converting from the penalty spot.

They were forced into a Second change soon after,Jovan Vidal replaced by Lewis Doyle .

Both sides created chances as the first half drew to a close, the visitors coming closest into injury time when Sean Myler hit the outside of the post.

Fabian Brandy was replaced at half time by Ollie Ford.Both teams had chances to go in front,Akrigg forcing Chris Thompson to parry his header onto the bar from close range while Ollie Ford forced a good save from Mottram at the other end after breaking down the right.

The Bloods settled the tie soon after, Sefton Gonzales beating the Widnes offside trap, and setting up Phil Marsh to tap home from six yards with fifteen minutes left and the Bloods finished the stronger team, looking the more likely to get a third.

Droylsden will now play Tadcaster at home in the Preliminary Round on the 13th Oct
